Golden Gate Bakery

Chinatown

by Jill

If the line out the door to this tiny bakery tells you anything, it's that something special can be found inside. And that special something is Golden Gate Bakery's dan tat, a pastry consisting of a flaky sweet tart crust and an egg custard filling which is lighter in texture and less sweet than typical American custards. People come from far and wide for their dan tat fix. They're best eaten fresh and warm, but super fans who want to buy more than one to hoard or share can have the friendly GGB staff wrap up several in a pink box to go.
