Gitane is glamour, romance, good food and great cocktails all in one tried and true package. The decor is lavishly lovely - an intriguing self-described mix of 30s cabaret and 70s disco. The cuisine is Andalusian-inspired. The drinks ooze classic San Francisco mixologist creativity. The intimate dining space, dim lighting and boudoir-chic feel of the place make Gitane a great eatery for a special occasion date night. However, if you're looking for something a little more raucous or casual, there is also a bar scene on the first floor with bites available to accompany your drinks and an outdoor bistro with heat lamps to warm your tootsies on chilly nights.

Stop Highlights

  • Menu changes seasonally but I recommend a tagine if there is one on offer.
  • A challenge: try to find the cleverly disguised bathroom without asking staff.

Know Before You Go: With its location in the Financial District, the bar does attract the after work suits and singles crowd. It also offers a limited menu. Definitely book an upstairs table in advance for tête-à-tête dining.
